Michael Spirito

Michael Spirito

Managing Partner and Co-Founder

Michael is the Managing Partner of 359 Capital, which he co-founded in 2018. Michael oversees the investing, operational and LP activities of the firm, and is a board director or observer at beehiiv, Fevo, Flowhaven, Lucky Energy, Onlife and Overtime.

Previously, Michael led digital media and BD across the 22 FOX regional sports networks, after having helped build and sell the YES Network to FOX for $3.8BN in 2015. Michael began his investing career as a founding member of AOL Time Warner Ventures (RIP) in 2000, before which he served his requisite time as an investment banking analyst at CSFB (RIP). Michael has also served as an early investor in and advisor to numerous consumer start-ups including Bonobos, Trunk Club, Tecovas, Billie and RotoQL.

Michael received his BA from Amherst College, where he played football and baseball, and his MBA from Stanford University, where he played dodgeball and led the GSB Show. A native Rhode Islander, Michael is based in New York City.

Rico is a Partner at 359 Capital, where he focuses on partnering with exceptional founders building across the AI application, fintech, digital health, and consumer social space. Rico is passionate about supporting founders on their journey, leveraging his experience and the firm’s network to advance their mission. Rico’s investments include Backbone, Amo, Perplexity, Bounce, and Lucky Energy.

Prior to joining 359 Capital, Rico’s experience in the technology industry spanned across multiple functional areas. He began his career founding and working at start-ups and held positions at Cisco, SAP and Sapphire Ventures. Rico has also supported social entrepreneurs in Indonesia, Singapore, Italy and Sri Lanka in developing and starting businesses. Rico is based in the New York area.

David Hartwig

Dave joined 359 Capital in 2023 and is a Partner with the firm. Dave is a generalist investor with a twenty-year track record and specific experience in consumer devices, financial services, gaming, health and wellness, software, and analytics. Prior to joining 359 Capital, Dave co-founded and was a Partner at Sapphire Ventures.  He started his venture capital career at Battery Ventures. Dave received his BSE from Princeton University and his MBA from UC Berkeley.

Dave grew up in Chicago and closely follows the Bears. He’s involved with Save the Redwoods and is interested in your favorite hikes, books, shows/movies, hikes, and teams. Dave is based in the Bay Area.Notable past investments include AvidXChange (AVDX), Fitbit (FIT), Kaltura (KLTR), Livongo (LVGO), Looker, OnDeck Capital (ONDK), IEX, Phoenix Labs, TicketFly.

Doug co-founded 359 Capital (fka as Sapphire Sport) in 2018. Doug has three decades of experience working with and investing in technology startups. Previously, Doug co-founded Sapphire Ventures where his investments included companies such as LinkedIn, DocuSign, Paytm and Square.Doug started his career in investment banking at Robertson Stephens in San Francisco. He then worked for one of his entrepreneurial heroes, George Lucas, where he launched the business development group for Lucasfilm.

Doug grew up in Edina, Minnesota, where he developed a strong passion for sports. His travels around the world helped him see the global impact of sports and deepen his appreciation for the industry. Doug earned his BA from Duke University and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Mackenzie is an Associate at 359 Capital, where she has particular focus on where exceptional founders are building at the intersection of consumer digital health and digital commerce. She also works closely with the firm’s LPs, translating market insight into portfolio support and strategic introductions.

Prior to joining 359 Capital, Mackenzie was an investment analyst at Battery Ventures in San Francisco, focusing on sourcing growth and later stage B2B vertical SaaS businesses. She attended Stanford University, where she majored in Human Biology with a focus in Medical Entrepreneurship and Policy, and was a member of the Stanford women’s lacrosse team. Mackenzie is based in the Bay Area.

Andrew is an Associate at 359 Capital, where he focuses on finding and backing standout consumer and prosumer businesses. He is passionate about building long-term relationships with founders and actively supports portfolio companies as they scale from early traction to meaningful growth.

Prior to joining 359 Capital, Andrew was an Investment Analyst at Insight Partners in New York, where he sourced and analyzed early and growth stage opportunities in enterprise software. Andrew attended Cornell University where he majored in Industrial & Labor Relations and double-minored in Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Law & Society. He currently serves as an Advisory Council Member for Entrepreneurship at Cornell. Andrew is based in New York City.

Joshua Gilbert

CFO

Josh is the CFO at 359 Capital, where he leads the firm’s financial operations. Josh is responsible for the oversight of limited partner reporting, compliance monitoring and manages all the fund accounting/tax/audit operations.

Prior to joining 359 Capital, Josh held the position of CFO and CCO at Freestyle Capital, Bedrock Capital and Lerer Hippeau Ventures. His early career started at Anchin, a NYC based accounting firm in the alternative investment division specializing in audit, tax and fund administration then moving on to Schwartz & Co. as a senior manager, working in the financial service and outsource CFO division. Josh is based in the New York area.
